Replie #1 Goffman’s role theory is a sociological idea (also called dramaturgical analysis) that explores how a person will present themselves in different social settings. His analogy is that life is like a performance and we are actors in the performance. Our performance is based on our values, beliefs, and habits during the different stages of our lives (Lumen Learning, n.d). Two concepts from his theory are front-stage presentation and backstage presentation. The front-stage presentation is how we present ourselves publicly. Situations where we might do this include work, school, or social events. Backstage presentation is our “true” self, where we show who we really are. Most of the time, we only do this with close friends and family or when we are alone. Replie #2 Cooley’s looking- glass self theory was the work of Charles Horton Cooley, an american sociologist. The theory describes how a person's reflection of how self is viewed by others.  This theory is broken down into three steps,  these three steps are referred to as “ The looking glass self” .  Step one is how one imagines one looks to other people. Step two is how one imagines the judgment of others based on how one thinks they view them. Step three is how one thinks of how the person views them based on their previous judgments ( Jones, Julie ,2015).  I can apply this theory to my everyday life.  I believe most people can.  I’m always wondering how I’m being perceived by other people. Sometimes I think I’m a different person with different people trying to avoid judgment.  In the future I’m not sure I will still feel that way.
